Summary

When you try and Deploy a CrossTec Package to a Windows XP Professional workstation you are Prompted for a username and password, if you enter a username and password of an account that has administrator rights to the machine CrossTec Deploy again prompts for a username and password. Eventually the deploy will fail and display an error.

Details

CrossTec Deploy needs to access the Admin$ share on the remote machine in order to transfer the Package to be deployed. In Windows XP Professional edition (Configured as a member of a workgroup) the default setting for Network access is to redirect it through guest account, which is disabled by default. This means that no access is allowed to the Admin$ share.

To enable network access:-

Windows XP Professional

  1. In Administrative Tools select Local Security Policy
  2. Select {Security Settings}{Local Policies}{Security Options}
  3. Select {Network access: Sharing and security model for local accounts}
  4. Alter the setting for this policy to {Classic - local users authenticate as themselves}

The Admin$ share will be available and CrossTec Deploy will work correctly.
